Use a medium or an electric toothbrush and replace it every three months.
Brush on all buccal, ligual and palatal surfaces placing the toothbrush at a 45º angle against the gumline in a short circular motion like massaging your gum.
Brush each time two or three teeth depending on the toothbrush’s length for about 20 seconds.
Gently brush using an up and down and rolling motion along all of the inner tooth surfaces and brush thoroughly all chewing surfaces as well.
An effective brushing takes about 5-8 minutes. It is recommended that you brush your tongue as well.
With an electric toothbrush is pretty much the same procedure, meaning, you have to change the brush head every three months and brush for a minimum of three minutes. In this case, it’s the electric toothbrush that performs the circular motion on its own instead of us.
When your gums bleed just after brushing, this does not necessarily mean that you have irritated or traumatized the gum but it can be a sign that there is an inflammation and you need to brush it in order to eliminate all bacteria.
Slide floss up and down against the tooth surface and under the gumline. Floss each tooth thoroughly with a clean section of floss.
Prefer flossing teeth at night before you go to bed. Curve floss into a C shape against one tooth and gently slide it between your teeth. In case of large teeth gaps, you should use an interdental brush instead.
You may use a mouthwash recommended by the doctor. Should you use it daily, make absolutely sure it is a liquid solution for everyday use. |
